Sugnet & Moore Environmental, Inc. (SME), founded in San Francisco in 1986, has served private and public sector clients throughout the western United States for the past two decades. Headquartered in Durango, Colorado since 1995, SME continues to exercise technical innovation and an in-depth understanding of environmental regulations to achieve cost effective, environmental solutions.
SME offers a complete range of environmental consulting services. The firm employs specialists in water quality, wetlands, habitat restoration design, special status species (Threatened and Endangered), regulatory compliance, water and soil sampling, air quality and hazardous materials, and practices a multi-disciplinary approach to all facets of projects. An in-depth understanding of project resources and evolving environmental regulations assures solutions that are sensitive to client needs and agency requirements.
Paul Sugnet, President, is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley with an M.S. in Range Management and a B.S. in Conservation of Natural Resources. Paul developed resource management plans for the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management prior to joining theprivate sector. He founded SME in 1986 in San Francisco with an emphasis on Section 404 Clean Water Act and Endangered Species Act Consulting. The firm is now based in Durango, Colorado and provides a diversity of environmental services to clients across the region. Paul founded a habitat mitigation company, Animas River Wetland Mitigation, and the Animas Conservancy. He has been active as a member of community boards including the American River Parkway Foundation, Durango Parks and Forestry Board and is an elected member of the Animas Mosquito Control District.
Sean Moore, Vice President, has a B.S. in Geography with a minor in Geology from the University of California at Davis. Prior to working in the private sector, he worked for the California Department of Conservation mapping annual changes in agricultural land use for the department’s Farmland Mapping and Monitoring program. In 1990 Sean joined SME in its Sacramento, California office in the GIS Department providing mapping and field support on Clean Water Act and Endangered Species Act projects. In 1993 and 1994 he worked for Geoscan USA conducting geophysical surveys at various archaeological sites throughout the Country of Turkey. In 1996 he assisted Paul Sugnet in the opening of SME’s Durango, Colorado office. During the last 13 years he has played a key role on all aspects of the firm’s major projects including Durango Mountain Resort, Three Springs, and numerous CDOT projects. In 2004 he became a partner in the firm and continues to serve as Principal in Charge on most of the firm’s projects. He is an active member of various community groups including: Board Member for Durango Early Learning Center (currently serving as President); an active member Chapman Hill snowmaking group, ongoing assistance to the Animas River Task Force on Clean Water Act issues related to the implementation of the Animas River Whitewater Master plan.
